Is it possible to scan a foot in 3D with precision using a smartphone?
The Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) has carried out a study that quantifies the precision and validity of 3D foot scanning technology using a smartphone, as developed by the IBV, compared with traditional methodologies such as manual measurements and other commercial solutions currently on the market. The results confirm that the IBV technology is as precise as the reference solution, much more reliable than manual measurements performed by an expert, and offers great opportunities for application in economic sectors where the possibility of scanning anywhere and at low cost are important for deployment and scalability.

WAAS/IBV (Whiplash Advanced Analysis System): whiplash syndrome assessment adapted to the context of traffic accident victims
The cervical whiplash syndrome caused by traffic accidents has a high incidence in Spain and, since there are no effective diagnostic tools, it is a controversial condition. This situation results in high personal and economic costs in nowadays society. Against this background, Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) has developed WAAS/IBV. More than 40 years of experience in biomechanical assessment have allowed the IBV to develop this objective, quick, simple and cost-effective biomechanical assessment system for the evaluation of the cervical whiplash syndrome caused by traffic accidents, based on scientifically validated methodologies.
