The IBV strengthens its position as a reference center in sport
The Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) continues to strengthen its position as a reference center in sport alongside the world's leading sports federations. In 2019, its range of accreditations was augmented by the recognition by FIFA and WORLD RUGBY as an artificial grass product testing laboratory, and by FIBA, to test most of the elements used in basketball, such as balls, video scoreboards, surfaces, baskets, etc. In this way, the IBV has become the only Spanish laboratory, and indeed one of the few in the world, to obtain all these recognitions.
TELETURF The ideal training tool to keep artificial turf fields in optimal conditions
After more than two years of research, the funding from the European Union and the efforts of seven organizations from 4 countries have made TELETURF possible. This training tool was created to improve the safety and quality conditions of artificial turf fields.
Can anterior cruciate ligament injuries in football players be prevented? Kneemotion, a new tool from IBV for the functional assessment of the knee
Injuries to the knee joint are very frequent among football players, especially women. One of the most common traumas is the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This injury entails a high social, psychological and economic cost for football players and their teams. Unfortunately, many players never recover the level of physical activity they had before the injury, due to the loss of functional aspects such as the stability of the knee in rotational movements.
Currently there are no objective technological tools with which to assess the rotational stability of the knee in a dynamic way. For this reason, the IBV has developed Kneemotion, a biomechanical analysis tool that makes it possible to detect alterations in the motion of the knee during sports movements. The ultimate goal is to prevent the possible exposure to ACL injuries, among others. It could also be used to monitor the rehabilitation progress in a quantitative, objective and easily interpretable way.
The IBV has been accredited by the International Padel Federation for the certification of padel balls
As of May 2017, the IBV is one of only 3 laboratories in the world accredited by the International Padel Federation (FIP) to homologate balls used in official competitions. In this way, the Federation has laid down a number of requirements for balls that are to be used both in its championships and in official tournaments included in the Official FIP Calendar. Any manufacturer who wants to obtain the "FIP APPROVED PADEL-BALL” stamp for their models must submit them to the corresponding laboratory tests.
